When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 at 52 years of age, I was determined to find a urologist with a reputation for clinical excellence in treating prostate cancer and for exceptional patient care. My search ultimately led me to Dr Peter Swindle at the Mater Private Clinic.
After evaluating the pros and cons of the treatment options explained to me by Dr Swindle, and speaking to some of his former patients, I elected to have my prostate surgically removed by him. In doing so, I had to confront the high risk of impotence and the possibility of incontinence associated with that major, life saving medical procedure.
I am now a prostate cancer survivor and will not be included on the long list of men who tragically succumb to this insidious disease in Australia each year.
I will be forever indebted to Dr Swindle not only for saving my life and for treating me with warmth and compassion throughout my ordeal, but also for the great lengths he went to during surgery to preserve my quality of life by minimising damage to my sexual and urinary functions. My own, very personal experience with Dr Swindle confirmed that he is deserving of his outstanding reputation.

I had a radical prostatectomy performed by a very capable surgeon (Dr Peter Swindle) 4 years ago after being diagnosed with a small but aggressive cancer, this was found by regular PSA tests and 2 biopsies, as my father and uncle have had a history of prostate problems, (but only benign cancers). The statistics were that yes, I might be still alive 15 years later but possibly riddled with untreatable cancers throughout the body, that had spread from this one source. I am glad that the cancer was found when still isolated in the prostate gland and cut out when I am still relatively young (diagnosed at 49 y.o.) I have had a very good recovery with minimal side effects, it does take time, but be patient.
My only regret is that the new "Da Vinci" machine was not available then, but my surgeon uses one now!
The message is regular screening, get it cut out as soon as possible and minimise the future impact on your body and soul!
